Body Butters

Updated: Aug 3

Better Butter: The good, the better, and the best of body butters.

What are body butters? What are their benefits?

Body Butters are plant-based fats that are usually solid at room temperature. While Body Lotions & Creams go through the process of emulsion between water and oils, Body Butters are anhydrous, made completely of fats, and are spreadable. Body Butter, when used in soap bars, moisturizers, and for deep conditioning the hair, deeply nourishes and hydrates skin and scalp, creating a protective barrier that helps lock in moisture to enrich the hair follicles and soften skin.

You can formulate your own recipes by adding essential oils, mixing multiple kinds of butter, and other additives when whipping Body Butter. We here at The Hayagriva Spa have been making top-notch customized formulations since 2015.

Listed below are the benefits of Body Butters that we use regularly in our handcrafted products at The Hayagriva Spa.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter has a high concentration of natural vitamins and fatty acids that help moisturize and nourish the skin. The high-fat content in Shea Butter makes it an excellent natural emollient and humectant, to lock in moisture and keep skin hydrated. It ensures that the skin's natural oils are preserved and not stripped while cleansing. Highly recommended for deep conditioning of the hair.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter protects the skin from damage that can cause premature skin aging, dull skin, dark patches, and a rough texture.  Cocoa Butter has emollient properties. Due to its fatty acid content, it deeply hydrates the skin and prevents dryness and peeling. It also nourishes the skin due to the oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids in its composition, all of which are known for preventing dry skin. These fatty acids create a protective coating on the skin, sealing in the moisture. Cocoa Butter helps to soften and to avoid stretch marks by seeping into the dermis, not just the epidermis, and it is the only butter that can achieve this. When the butter is absorbed into the dermis, it can hold even more moisture—highly recommended for chapped lips and cracked heels, too.

Avocado Butter

Avocado Butter is versatile and is generally tolerated by all skin types, including sensitive skin. It is rich in vitamins A, D & E, and is an antioxidant that has anti-aging properties. Apart from moisturizing, Avocado Butter smooths, evens, lightens, and brightens the skin tone. The antioxidants in Avocado Butter help reduce inflammation and are therefore highly recommended for skin conditions like Psoriasis and Eczema.
