Carrier Oils: All about the goodness of Carrier Oils for different skin types

What are carrier oils? What are their benefits?

Carrier Oils are oils derived naturally from nuts, seeds, kernels, etc. They are quite mild-scented and do not evaporate quickly like Essential Oils. In skin & hair care, carrier oils function as emolliants and occlusives. They are used as a base for soaps, body washes, moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, and to dilute essential oils for aromatherapy.

It's always advisable to choose cold-pressed oils and fractioned oils when possible.

Listed below are the benefits of Carrier Oils that we use regularly in our handcrafted products at The Hayagriva Spa.

Canola Oil

Canola Oil contains a high level of essential fatty acids, which moisturize the skin and enhance the strength of skin tissue. It's also rich in Vitamin K, which helps keep the skin supple and smooth, and linoleic acid, which forms a barrier on the skin to keep moisture from escaping.

Sesame Oil

Sesame Oil, especially when cold pressed, is packed with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and moisturizing properties. This oil helps protect against sun damage and environmental pollutants. This oil has warming properties. It nourishes and deeply conditions the hair follicles and scalp while promoting hair growth.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains many antioxidants and fatty acids that aid in promoting clear, bright, and glowing skin. Research suggests that it has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. This oil has cooling properties and is beneficial for regular use in hot months, and helps soothe sunburns.

Grapeseed Oil

Because of the proven antimicrobial properties of grapeseed oil, it is known to treat acne outbreaks. Grapeseed oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. By combating bacteria that can get deep into your pores and cause breakouts, grapeseed oil can make your skin clearer. It's high in linoleic acid, beneficial for fortifying the skin's barrier, and helps to reduce water loss from the skin. Grapeseed oil is known to speed up the healing process of the skin and decrease the formation of keloid scars.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil has exceptional moisturizing and nourishing properties to hydrate the skin. Its high content in vitamins A, E, D, and K makes it an ideal oil to make skin care products that protect and nourish even the most sensitive skin.
