Essential Oils: Let's just say that Essential Oils are essentially Essential.


What are Essential Oils? What are their benefits?


Essential Oils are extracts derived naturally from flowers, herbs, barks, leaves, roots, fruits, and plants in general. They are concentrated, aromatic, and used in Aromatherapy and in natural hair & skin care products, amongst many other uses. They have a strong aroma that is unique to the plant from which they are extracted and are believed to have therapeutic properties. Essential Oils are categorized into Floral, Citrus, Herby, Woodsy/Earthy, Musky, Spicy & Camphorous notes.

Essential Oils are Potent & Volatile and must be used with caution. It is important to dilute them in Carrier Oils or mix them with other ingredients before applying them directly to the skin.


Listed below are the benefits of Essential Oils that we use regularly in our handcrafted products at The Hayagriva Spa.


Patchouli

Patchouli Essential Oil can deodorize body odors, soothe inflammation, fight water retention, and help break up cellulite.  


Rosemary

Rosemary Essential Oil can help lighten dark spots and blemishes on the skin, resulting in an improved skin complexion. The anti-inflammatory properties of rosemary extract also help to reduce swelling and puffiness of the skin.


Neroli

Neroli Essential Oil has antiseptic properties that are beneficial in treating various skin infections. As aromatherapy, Neroli oil acts as an aphrodisiac, mood booster, and helps alleviate symptoms of PMS, PMDD, and other issues.  


Bergamot

Bergamot Essential Oil contains antiseptic properties to help kill bacteria and prevent infections. The antioxidant properties repair cells, improving the speed and quality of healing. The aroma of Bergamot soothes the nerves and reduces stress and anxiety.


Lavender

Lavender Essential Oil has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial, and detoxifying benefits. It reduces redness, soothes skin, and heals cuts, scrapes, and rashes. Inhaling the aroma may be a safer alternative for mild to moderate sleep issues and insomnia.


Vanilla

Vanilla Essential Oil benefits skin and aromatherapy. For skin, it provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, soothing, protecting, reducing signs of aging, and promoting a healthy complexion. In aromatherapy, its warm, sweet scent helps reduce stress, boost mood, stimulate appetite, and promote relaxation and well-being. 


Sandalwood

Sandalwood Essential Oil has calming and sensual properties. The oil can help to create a feeling of relaxation and calm. The oil helps to nourish the skin, improve the elasticity of skin cells, and even out skin tone. Because of these qualities, it can be beneficial in reducing the appearance of scars.


Rose Geranium

Rose Geranium Essential Oil is a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory oil; it actively boosts skin's health and natural glow by helping skin stay conditioned. It soothes irritated or breakout-prone skin, and it protects skin from harsh weather conditions. When used in aromatherapy applications, the oil has a soothing sedative effect that promotes greater feelings of optimism.


Sweet Orange

Sweet Orange Essential Oil benefits skin and aromatherapy. Packed with Vitamin C, it brightens skin, reduces blemishes, and promotes a radiant glow. Its uplifting scent helps reduce stress, boost positivity, and create a positive atmosphere. 


Ylang Ylang

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil provides various benefits for skin and aromatherapy. In skincare, it helps regulate oil levels, ease inflammation, and support healing. For aromatherapy, it is valued for its ability to elevate mood and reduce stress. 


Tea Tree

Tea Tree Oil benefits skin and aromatherapy with antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. For skin, it treats acne, reduces inflammation, soothes sunburns, heals minor cuts, and eases eczema and dandruff. In aromatherapy, its fresh scent reduces stress, fatigue, and congestion.


Frankincense

Frankincense can boost the skin's natural glow and shield it from environmental harm. It helps retain moisture for dry skin and alleviates itching and flakiness. Its antiseptic qualities are advantageous for acne-prone skin by helping to control bacteria. Additionally, the woody, earthy, and spicy scent of Frankincense Essential Oil can enhance mental and emotional well-being when diffused or inhaled.


Camellia

Camellia Essential Oil may help lighten dark spots and even skin tone by inhibiting melanin production. It also promotes collagen synthesis and strengthens the skin barrier, which can enhance skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Non-comedogenic, it doesn't clog pores, making it suitable for most skin types, including oily, acne-prone, and sensitive skin. Additionally, its subtle fragrance can garner relaxation and well-being when used in aromatherapy.


Magnolia

Magnolia Essential Oil contains magnolol and honokiol, showing antibacterial and antifungal activity. Alpha-terpineol may inhibit tyrosinase and melanin, aiding skin lightening and reducing age spots. Diluted, it hydrates and soothes skin. It also calms the nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety, with inhalation promoting tranquility due to linalool.


Ginger

Ginger Essential Oil benefits skin and aromatherapy. It brightens dull & dark skin, lightens and soothes dark, rough patches on skin, reduces dark circles under the eyes, and lightens scars and blemishes. In aromatherapy, it energizes and uplifts, reducing stress and enhancing well-being. Its anti-inflammatory properties soothe muscle and joint pain, used topically or in a warm bath. 


Jojoba

Jojoba Oil provides many advantages, mainly for skin and hair care. It serves as an effective moisturizer, relieves sunburns, and may assist with issues like acne and eczema. Known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, Jojoba Oil is also helpful in removing makeup, softening cuticles, and potentially encouraging hair growth since it is non-comedogenic.


Sea Buckthorn

Sea Buckthorn Oil provides numerous benefits, especially for skin health. It is packed with antioxidants, vitamins (A, C, E, B-complex), and fatty acids, which help stimulate skin renewal, decrease inflammation, and shield against sun rays. The oil offers deep hydration, anti-aging effects, and calming benefits for irritation. It's a combination of vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that supports a vibrant, youthful complexion. 


Rosehip

Rosehip Oil offers numerous benefits for skin due to its rich composition of vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. It can hydrate, brighten, reduce inflammation, and minimize the appearance of scars and fine lines. Additionally, it helps boost collagen production, combats hyperpigmentation, and reduces dark circles under the eyes. It's generally well-tolerated and suitable for various skin types, including sensitive skin. 


Eucalyptus, Peppermint & Rosemary

Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Rosemary Essential Oils help clear the sinus and inflammation of the respiratory tract through aromatherapy. They also help soothe symptoms of allergy and cold, apart from having pain-killing properties.
