What are Bio-derived Ingredients? What are their benefits?
Bio-derived ingredients—obtained from natural sources through sustainable processes—have gained popularity for their eco-friendly benefits, contributing to effective and environmentally conscious skincare options.

Bioderived and active ingredients are becoming increasingly popular in skincare because of their strong effects and their appeal to consumers seeking safer, more sustainable beauty solutions.
Listed below are the benefits of many such ingredients that we use regularly in our handcrafted products at The Hayagriva Spa. We use these ingredients as natural colorants in our products.

The caffeine present in coffee has anti-inflammatory effects that can diminish redness and puffiness. Moreover, coffee is high in antioxidants, which
Turmeric
Turmeric benefits skin with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, helping to reduce acne, dark circles, and signs of aging, and improving skin tone. It kills bacteria, calms inflammation, and prevents pimples. Curcumin, in turmeric, offers anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects, reducing inflammation, protecting against UV, and aiding wound healing and skin conditions like psoriasis and acne.
Criollo Cacao
Criollo Cacao offers skin benefits due to its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Its fatty acids and flavanols hydrate, improve elasticity, and reduce fine lines. Cocoa & Cacao powder moisturizes, protects against sun damage, reduces inflammation, and enhances skin appearance. These qualities protect skin from damage, slow aging, and promote a healthy glow. When combined with Coco Butter, it soothes stretch marks and aids skin repair and collagen production.
Ground Pumice
Ground pumice stone not only removes dry, dead skin, paint, resin, glue, etc., and softens calluses and corns to reduce friction pain, but also exfoliates the skin, promotes healthy skin renewal, and can be used for cleaning stubborn ingrown hair to prevent a strawberry-like appearance of the skin. Its abrasive properties make it versatile for personal care and foot care. Additionally, ground pumice can improve blood circulation through gentle massage, reduce roughness on elbows and knees, help in removing stubborn dirt and impurities from pores, aid in reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks over time, and support overall skin health by stimulating cell regeneration.
Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is deeply cleansing to the pores without stripping the body of its natural oils. Activated charcoal effectively cleanses the skin, unclogs pores, removes deeper impurities, and dead skin cells. It exfoliates the skin without stripping it of its natural oils. The result is smooth, supple, and even-toned skin. Additionally, activated charcoal can help reduce acne and blackheads, control oil production, soothe skin irritations, and detoxify the skin by drawing out toxins. It also supports a clearer complexion and can improve skin brightness.
Spirulina
Spirulina is a microalgae used in sunscreens, treating skin pigmentation disorders, and healing wounds. Rich in antioxidants like phycocyanin and beta-caroten, it offers benefits for skin health, including reducing signs of aging, protecting against sun damage, brightening skin, promoting collagen, and aiding healing.
